IMAC incompatibility with Verizon versalink wireless router

Mar 28, 2006 7:54PM PST

I recently purchased the brand new IMAC Core with the pentium processor. My wireless router is working with all the other computers in the house, includuing a laptop G4 with an Airport card. My new IMAC is recognizing my network which is listed under the airport button on the top of the screen. When I select the network I get a message that says Airport cannot connect to this network. Apple doesn't know what the problem is nor does Verizon. I can connect to the internet via ethernet from the same router. Any suggestions, I'm about to return this computer.

You need a guru.

I've used any number of machines to connect to that. Sometimes I find I have to disable the wep/wpa security first and then it connects. Next we explore what security we can use. Also I have my wifi router set to only allow certain machines. All this is far from automatic.

But the first test would be to connect to some hotspot to see your new laptop is OK.

IMAC wireless incompatability issue
Mar 28, 2006 10:31PM PST

I brought my IMAC (not a laptop) into the Apple store and it was on the net within secnds, so the airport card does connect. My service is WEP disabled, no password, no restrictons on number of connections. Have you connected wirelessly to the same exact wireless router/modem. It's the Westell Versalink 327.

Not with an imac.

Time to check for firmware updates for the router or see if it's set to only allow so many connections or has MAC filtering turned on.

If I recall, that is the same router my neighbor has. I don't care for it since it's unlike any netgear/dlink router as to the menus, but if you keep at it, you can find these settings.
