I'm connected by a proxy but my programs cann't connect

First, sorry for my broken english! Happy
I'm connected in my University by a proxy server. I have Internet connetion with the web explorer, but any other application can connect.
What I can do for to give Internet access to others applications?

1. Check your firewall settings.
2. Check if these other applications (you don't tell which ones, maybe your antivirus or Windows report it can't download updates?) have a setting to use a proxy.
3. Contact the IT support desk of your university for a solution.
4. Contact the customer support of those other applications for a solution.

Proxy servers often have restrictions on what can be passed through them. Double check what restrictions exist on the university proxy server.

That is, your web browser settings use the proxy. Your University should have instructions about other apps. BUT this may be on purpose since they don't want folk chewing up the bandwidth for games or torrents.
