In my early working days in a "charity" hospital, my preference was to care for the old men. Their lioves were in their faces.

I don't forget one elderly gentleman.

One day while I was leaving, he called me over a placed a quarter in my hand. "That's for your bus fare", he said.

I declined, saying that I lived within walking distance, and suggested that I use it to buy him some candy, ice cream, or a soft drink.

"But you might want to ride down town. Please take it!"

I could see his making the "gift" was important to him, so thanked him.

After some time passed, I bought him some ice cream with it.
