Fair warning that while I have had zero issues reading old Word 97 documents, we did have a few users that embedded Corel drawings into the documents. These documents would open, but the drawing is blank. To fix, we had to install the latest Corel on the machine ($$$) or go back to the 97 machine and use that to convert the drawing to native Word graphics. You can get the same issue with many other graphics programs, but the ones we encountered most were Corel and Visio.
