If I ever get a new MP3 player...

Feb 15, 2009 10:48AM PST

If I ever get a new MP3 player, how would I transfer all my songs from my previous Mp3 player to the next?

I'm asking this because I have a 1 GB Sansa c240 which is pretty old and crappy, and it's my first MP3 player, and when it gets full I want to get a new one, but I need to know how to transfer my hundreds of songs from it to the new one.

Thx.

you mean you don't have them on your computer?

Tisk, tisk, tisk...what would happen if the player gets lost, stolen, or just stops working? You should back up your music.

Anyway, put it into MSC mode and you should be able to transfer your music back to your computer like you would files on a USB stick. I believe you need to turn on & press and hold the rewind button while connecting to the PC.

I have tried backing up my files

I tried creating a back-up file if I ever lost my MP3, but when I do it only lets me copy it to the desktop as a shortcut, then when I unplug my MP3 and I use the shortcut, it takes me no where cuz the source has been taken away.

Now what is this ur saying about MSC mode? What's that?

MSC
Feb 16, 2009 12:50AM PST

MSC mode is a mode where the computer recognizes the player as a USB device so you can treat it as you would a USB stick, so you can drag and drop to/from the player. I already explained how to do it on your player.

What I really meant by my comment about backing up: if you owned the songs in the first place they would already be on your computer. Oh well. If you can get it into MSC mode then you'll be able to back them up.

Well I download all my songs with LimeWire, then I put them on my Sansa using Media Monkey, then I delete them from the Desktop.

I udnerstand about the MSC mode, I'll try that. Thx.

U left out a step

I Googled the MSC mode and u forgot to tell me to slide the "hold" switch over and have the "SanDisk" end of the USB port in the MP3, but it can't be connected to the computer.

1. With your View powered off, plug in the "SanDisk" end of the cable, but not the USB end.

2. Turn on your View.

3. Slide the switch to "hold" - you should see the "lock" icon.

4. While watching the screen, press the left side of the scroll wheel and hold it down until you see the icon go off and back on. You should be in MSC mode now.

5. Plug the USB cable into your computer and Windows should do its finding new drives thing.

Ok, huge problem

Well I went into its settings and I found "USB" there. I went into "USB" and "Audto Detect" was selected, which is why it didn't appear as a drive on the computer. So here's what I did:

I went into "USB" again, and I saw "MSC" there. I selected that. Then when I plugged it into my computer I got this (go to this link):

Also, plz take a look at these 2 interfaces:

"Auto Detect" USB mode: http://i40.tinypic.com/dyvlso.jpg

"MSC" USB mode: http://i42.tinypic.com/awykcy.jpg

Also, when MSC mode was selected and I connected my MP3, it found 2 new drives: Sansa C240 (F:), and Removable Disc (GHappy. When I went into Sansa c240 (F:), all of my extremely old songs where there, they were also the songs I couldn't find in Auto Detect USB mode.

Now none of my newer songs r on there, and I have to switch modes to see the other songs.

***?? How can I make all the songs that are in Auto Detect appear in MSC so I can edit them??

I also remember that when I first got my MP3, I used MSC mode for a while, which explains why some songs r in there. But then one day Auto Detect was the selected USB option and I had no idea, so because of that I had to use Media Monkey to transfer songs to my MP3, and the songs can't leave the Internal Memory thing when it's in Auto Detect mode.
