Question

Iexplorer.exe has stopped working

Sep 14, 2017 6:16AM PDT

Trying to help my sister on her computer, windows 10 all updates. Internet Explorer 11. Looked in “view reliability history” and saw “iexplorer.exe stopped working” on a daily basis.

Thus far I did this yesterday:
1 – Went to tools / internet options / advanced tab / reset – put a check mark on ‘delete personal settings’ - reset – issue remains
2 - Ran sfc /scannow – did not show any errors – Reboot - issue remains

Going to her house today and plan on trying the following:
3 – Remove Internet Explorer as a Windows Feature – reboot – add back
4 – Launch “troubleshooting” program
5 – Launch “Performance Monitor” to see if there are any warnings / errors
6 – Saw something about trying the following: In a command prompt elevated to Administrator run the command – DISM / Online / Cleanup-Image / RestoreHealth – Reboot
7 – Go to Folder Options / View – check mark on “Always show icons & “uncheck” Display file icon on Thumbnails
8 – Go to “internet Options in Control Panel” / Advanced tab – put a check mark on “use software rendering instead of GPU rendering.
9 – Go to “event viewer” to see what I see regarding IE stopped working

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Answer
I'm going with you'll never fix this.

Why? Because it is still possible to lock up IE and other browsers with a bad web page you may be chasing ghosts. I've seen folk lose a lot of time on this. I won't spend a lot of time here either. A bad site and you'll see this. Nothing to do other than let it be.

Interesting...

So my sister mainly uses the Yahoo website, has been for like "ever", going mainly to access her "email". Since this is a new "issue", I find it hard to believer it can't be fixed. Maybe I will need to do a reformat, but I will leave this for last.

thanks for replying

1.The message you receive is usually caused by an add-on to IE.
Troubleshooting IE without Add-ons
Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools, and click Internet Explorer no Add-ons.
Then re-enable add-ons 1 at a time until you locate the add-on causing your problem.

2.There have been reports of the Google toolbar causing this problem so if you have the Google toolbar I would suggest uninstalling it.

3.Try using System File Checker to scan your OS for missing/corrupt files.
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the results area, right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.
Click Yes / Continue if you are the administrator or type the administrator password.
At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER.

The scan may take some time, so be patient.
Windows will repair any corrupted or missing files that it finds.
