Iexplore has caused an error in MSHTML.DLL

Feb 29, 2004 6:26PM PST

Running WinME with IE 5.50.41.34.0600
On some sites, Windows Update being one of them, I get the above error message followed by "Iexplore will now close". This prevents me from D/L any help from MS.
Any suggestions on a fix? Have run Scan Disk, Defrag, Ad-Aware, CWShredder, Spy-bot, Pest Patrol, VirusScan without any success in solving the problem.

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q265/2/44.ASP notes it, but you won't be happy that reports still occur that this issue is still alive and well.

There's another cloud in IE 5.5 with the WINDOWS CODE LEAK that you heard about. A researcher found some vulnerabilities in IE 5.5 and as such, this browser is now dead. I haven't read of any patch to fix this.

You can read about it in the Security Forum, but for me, I'd just move to Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org) and install IE 6.0

If this is annoying, I can understand.

I have run IE 6 with, I believe, every patch and upgrade available intalled, but was experiencing quirkey performance - the back button would take me two sites back instead of just one as an example. I'll try an upgrade thru your suggestion since at this time I am not able to upgrade thru MS.

That's a new clue.

If you can't upgrade via Windows Update, this is a new clue.

What can you tell?
