The System File Checker should be able to take care of that problem...click here for instructions. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling IE6 on Windows 98 and reinstalling from a fresh copy.
Hope this helps,
John
Did as you fellows suggested. SFC found no problem and spyware was not an issue either. Thanks for the responses.
Start>Run>type regsvr32 oleaut32.dll>enter
If that doesn't work, extract a fresh copy of
oleaut32.dll using system file checker or MSCONFIG depending on your operating system.

What you tell:
- SFC didn't fix it. No spyware.
What you didn't tell:
- did you uninstall and reinstall IE?
- did you install Office 2000 SP 1 or run the patch program from the MSKB-link I gave
Always interesting:
- Download free BHODEMON and see what Browser Helper Objects are installed. Anything unusual or unsuspected?
- Any pattern observable. 'Sometimes' is vague. Specific other application running or being run? Specific site visited?

Cannot uninstall IE in Windows 98SE, tried your link for the MSKB, but like John mentioned it is no longer available. I do not recall any pattern or specific site or application running. Do not have Office 2000.
What is this oleaut32.dll any way? Nothing appears to be available for this issue. Like I mentioned before the issue does not always show when exiting IE.
rmcarl, Many others who installed Internet Explorer 6 SP1 on Windows 98/98SE have had various problems as it installs the Windows XP version of the oleaut32.dll file. I can't guarantee this but since you don't have Office 2000 go to the link below and download the Microsoft Mcrepair.exe fix then run it and then restart your computer. The mcrepair.EXE contains the correct version of oleaut32.dll for Windows 98/98SE and may correct your problem.

There used to be a Microsoft KB Article on this but it's no longer available.
