IEEE1394 video capture card

Jan 18, 2005 12:12AM PST

I am looking into getting a firewire card but there are so many in the market and I do not know which one to get. Can anyone suggest a IEEE1394 card which lets you transfer full-screen, full-motion digital video from DV camcorder to your PC. I am looking for good quality transfer so my DVD's (after burning) show goood video on both my TV and computer screen. Thanks.

The firewire card doesn't do this.

It's a simple 20 buck card which I have yet to find one that affects the transfered digital data.

So, is the transfer quality of video by all firewire cards are about the same(regardless of the manufaturer or the chipset)? If that is true, can you suggest a software which will allow full motion fullscreen video? I want good quality of DVD which plays well both on TV and computer screen. How much difference does the software make in the video quality? Thanks.

Same. It's just the transport or connection to move the bits

From cheap to extreme the offerings I've used are...

DVDSANTA. 30 bucks, very easy, works for many.

Ulead products. Some come free with DVD recorders to about 99 bucks. A little more work.

Adobe Premiere. Lots more bucks, more work, more capabilities.

The Avid offerings. Broadcast quality. 5 and up figures. Top notch output. Serious stuff.
