General discussion

IE8 opens

Feb 2, 2010 8:49PM PST

Hi.

This may be a silly question, but...

I run IE8 on WIndows 7. WHen I do a Google search or open a page from an existing page IE opens a new browser window instead of a tab within the existing page.

How do I change this so all pages open within the same window?

Ta much.

Dave.

Yep, Internet Options

In IE8 goto Tools > Internet Options, and in the General tab open the "Tab" options.

You should be able to find something there.

Good luck.

Example please.

In the page you're looking at now I left-clicked on your username. That gave your profile page in the same tab (both in Firefox and in IECool. Not a new tab. Not a new window.

To open in a new tab I have to use middle-click or right click>open in new tab.To open in a new window I have to use right click>open in new window. Both in IE and in Firefox.

So that are 10 experiments (left click, middle click, right-click with 3 choices in 2 browsers). How is it with you (same page, same link)?

Tab Options
Feb 5, 2010 4:19AM PST

In order to have a link open in a new tab instead of a new window, follow these steps:

1. Click on the Tools tab then Internet Options
2. In Internet options you will see the Tabs options, click on Settings
3. In Tabbed Browsing Settings, in the section that states "Open links from other programs in" choose "A new tab in the current window"

I hope this helps you!

Cheers,
Bryn
