IE8 Accelerators

Apr 29, 2009 8:57AM PDT

I don't see mention of an IE8 Accelerator for Yahoo Mail or MS Office Outlook. Am I overlooking something or there aren't any accelerators for these apps?

Not really applicable...

An Internet Explorer accelerator works by opening multiple connections for loading content from a single source, overcoming the limitations imposed by the browser and/or the website, provided they are more restrictive than your ISP's. They work for any website, regardless, unless blocked by the website. Thus, there's no such thing as one for Yahoo Mail or any other specific website--'one size fits all,' so to speak. And since Outlook is a separate application, an Internet Explorer accelerator is not applicable.

The default IE8 accelerator for email is "Live Mail". When you go the website to find other email accelerators, you can select GMail, AOL Mail Accelerator, etc...all marked as "accelerators". I have changed MY defaul email accelerator from Live Mail to GMail. This is what I meant with my original post reagrading Yahoo Mail.

Accelerator means to increase speed, and, in Internet-speak, means to cache pages for faster display. You're using it like it's a program in itself. What am I missing?

Because it's called "Accelerator" on the website

I'm only calling it by what I see on the website (see link provided in previous email). You will see names like "Send with Gmail (Accelerator)", "Send with AOL (Accelerator)".

You're missing IE8.

A great loss, but it's free to download and enjoy.

An accelerator, in IE8, is an addon that allows YOU to perform certain tasks faster, mostly by extending the right-click menu.

Walt-

Hi, my name's cody, and I'm working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help answer questions users might have about their copies of Internet Explorer 8.

When IE8 launched, Yahoo! released what they call a "Yahoo! optimized" version of the browser. It includes a pretty handy Web Slice that lets you access your Yahoo! Mail at all times, no matter where you are on the web. Here's a link: http://www.ymailblog.com/blog/2009/03/would-you-like-a-slice-of-mail-with-your-internet-explorer-8/

I hope this is helpful, let me know how it works out for you!

Thanks,

Thanks Cody, just curious but...

Why hasn't IE included a search feature for "favorites"? I remember years ago when I was a Netscape user they had a search feature for their "bookmarks". It came in handy when you had a lot of bookmarks/favorites but you weren't quite sure where you had stored a particular bookmark.

still confused

When I right click on the accelerator arrow icon on a webpage, a drop down window appears listing accelerators, (or programs), that are available for me to use to perform actions such as: emailing something from that webpage, or viewing a map of a location mentioned on that webpage, or translating something on that webpage, etc. I did not choose or download the accelerators (programs) in this drop down list, they are there by default. If I want to use programs other than the ones listed by default, I can go to the IE8 website and download the accelerators for the programs I want to use. They will then appear in that drop down list. The accelerator for emailing using Windows Live is in the list by default; the accelerator for emailing using Yahoo Mail is not. Accelerators are available on the IE8 website for me to download for other email programs including AOL, Hotmail, and Gmail, but not for Yahoo mail. So my question is, and I believe this is also what Walt was asking, is there an accelerator available for download for Yahoo Mail or is there another way to add Yahoo Mail to that drop down list? I did check out that link you provided for the Yahoo! Optimized version of IE8, but I dont want all the extras that come with that download.
Thank you. Jeana

Maybe this could help.

I had the same problem with IE8 but, if you download the yahoo toolbar, there is an option to download the plug-in and make it your default email provider or something to that affect. If you check the box and download the toolbar, yahoo becomes an option in your email defaults.
