IE6 Removal

Jun 9, 2005 10:58PM PDT

I've tried just about every ''work around'' both published and unpublished to try an resolve an ie6 Error I have experienced now for more than a month.

I'm running XP Pro.

I am TOTALLY convinced now that the ONLY way to resolve this problem is if anyone knows of a way to
completely remove ie6, and then do a new install, as EVERYTHING else has failed.

Removing IE6 is easy, but...

Removing IE6 is easy. Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> browse throught the list and find Internet Explorer 6.0

It just reverts to the basic eariler version of IE though, and I'm not sure if it's even possible to remove that...

There is no ie6 icon within XP Pro "Add and Remove Programs"

There should be, unless you have an eariler version of IE that's bundled with Windows. I'm not sure if that can be removed...

just4u, You are correct as far as IE 6 not showing up in your Add/Remove Programs with Windows XP Pro or Home. What problem are you having with IE 6 and if it's an error message exactly what is the message. IE 6 is an integral part of Windows XP and can't be uninstalled. You also need IE to access Windows Updates even if that's all you would use it for. In the former versions of Windows (95/98/98SE/ME) you could go into Add/Remove Programs and either Repair IE or revert back to the original version of IE that came with Windows if you updated it to a newer version, but that's not the case with Windows XP

Have you tried a Repair or Reinstall of IE 6 as shown at the link below?

ie6 Contnued Problems
Jun 11, 2005 4:12AM PDT

As I said in my 1st email I have tried ALL known work arounds including options 1 & 2 posted, but they have not worked.

At best after carrying out option 2 (edit registry)I get ie6 to work for about 3 or 4 surf's without a problem but then the poblem returns.

I get a bulk standard Windows Error Message, but the main problem is that ie6 just ''hangs'' and will not load any URL's and every time I come out of ie6, I get the error message yet again - 100% ofthe time.

You may be stuck.

I re-read this discussion and since you've tried it all, you'll get to reload the entire OS.

Of course there is HIJACKTHIS logs that could be reviewed but that's been done so you can't do much else than wipe and reload.

I don't get it...

IE 6 is just an upgrade. You cannot remove the origional version of IE bundled with Windows, but the IE6 upgrade downloaded later should show up in Add/Remove Programs...

IE 6 comes packaged with Windows XP

Hope the above clarifies your question.

I don't see how that browser is better than Firefox. Firefox support all the options there, like tab browsing, and more.
