IE6 hangs and PConpoint

Aug 28, 2005 6:16AM PDT

I'm running windows 98 and am having trouble with IE6, it takes almost a minute to respond when I leave a site and even tho I have a cable connection, some sites have to be refreshed a couple of times to open. I have all the windows updates, AVG, and several spyware and adware programs which I run daily. Is there a fix for this? Also, I downloaded PConpoint, ran it and it found a lot of errors but there doesn't seem to be a restore on it. Is this a safe cleaner to use or is there something better I should try. A freebie would be nice!!!!! Thanks.

Download and install Mozilla Firefox.
Don't know about pconpoint, but CCleaner is very reliable and free.

If I download Firefox, do I uninstall IE6 or leave it. If I do have to uninstall it, is it before or after installing Mozilla. Thanks for your help.

don't know how to fix

I have tried going to system tools, system information, tools...internet options and running the IE6 fix there. That puts alexa on which shows up in Ad aware. Doesn't really do anything else. Is there some other fix? Thanks.....it's really bugging me, hard to get into Outlook Express even. When I press ctrl/alt/del it's always internet explorer which is not responding.

Fixed?

Just wondering if you have gotten this problem fixed. I was going to download PConpoint before I read this thread and decided not to. I have used the CCleaner before and it does seem to work well so far...nothing has slowed or shut down that is. And it also asks you if you would like to backup your registry before removing anything, so that is another plus. You might want to try and download the Avant Browser at http://www.avantbrowser.com/. I have only been using it for a few weeks only after I downloaded the Firefox browser and was unable to open certain pages since it was not IE. Avant is an IE based browser so it should work with everything that uses IE. It also does not use as many resources as IE because it is a tabbed browser, which I am really beginning to like. The only thing that I could think of that might have happened is you might have erased some part of the registry that was needed for the program to function correctly. That's why it is good to always backup your info... trust me I have learned this lesson from my own previous mistakes. Not that this was a solution to your problem, but I hope it can solve some issues that you might have.
