Ie5/6/Norton roundabout...help!

Dec 3, 2004 10:02PM PST

Running win 98 SE
IE6.0.2800 (just installed)
Quick rundown:
Norton quarantined 2 infected files, which were then accidently deleted...Reverted to former version of IE(5)after unsuccesful repair attempts, also uninstalled Norton to see if that was the prob... Now Norton wont re-install, saying it needs IE 5.1...cant find it, so I install IE6 (fortunately recovering my lost address book), but IE 6 now:
Runs very slow;
mouse commands are very choppy and sluggish;
Certain websites wont display (just get white window), such as my secure bank site, and discussion board site.(golf equipment afficionados)...
Window "greys out" as if something has popped up behind it, but no windows or ad pops up...
...I looked around here and found a site telling me I had a parasite...tried SpyBot S&D, which found the same parasite and seemed to have removed it, but same problems remain.
When I had IE5 running, it was quick and crisp, and everything opened fine...
any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
note: I'm not the type who feels comfortable going into the registry, but could follow detailed instrucions if necessary.
thanks again,
Greg
