IE vs Mozilla FireFox vs Opera

Jun 10, 2004 1:18PM PDT

Anyone want to post their reason for using either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox? Or Opera?

My reason for not using IE: It does not comply with WC3's or whatever its called standards, it uses its own thing called MSHTML...

My reason for not using Opera: I heard it costs money.

My reason for using FireFox: I like the tabs. A LOT. Grin

I use IE for one main reason: patches. Microsoft continues to patch vulnerabilities it discovers. I have never checked out FireFox, so I can't say a lot about it. Mozilla, on the other hand, is a different story. It has so many vulnerabilities that it is not safe to use. Mozilla isn't being patched on a regular basis and I would advise people to not use it.

What is the source of your erroneous information?

Where do you get that information from? Mozilla,it so happens, is much less vulnerable than IE. So for that matter is almost any other free standing browser!
I would certainly want to see the sources for your "information".

I have used Mozilla unpatched for years and have never hd a real problem with it. But that is a matter of choice as IE was and always will be a substandard copy of the original Netscape in spite of what a technically limited judge ruled when Netscape sued over this Microsoft look alike!

If IESpell and Google toolbar ever make it to Mozilla, I'll change.

I've used IE and OE since day one. I've also used Netscape since about 3 dot something, and Mozilla. I keep going back to IE just because. I keep it patched, run behind a D-link router, use NAV updated every other day, and run ZoneAlarm. I've never had a problem.

Good luck,

You can already search Google from the browser and all popups are blocked with Mozilla... why do you need the Google toolbar?

I started using Netscape and stayed with it up to 4.79, I than tried mozilla and it was so much like Netscape. I than tied Opera, on my machine ( AMD 3200+ )it is the fastest and most user frendly of all that I have tried! You can download a free banner supported browser and try it. I downloaded this and used it for a little over one week and payed the $39.00 to get rid of the advertisements and it was well worth it to me! I don't use opera's mail program........still use mailwasher and Netscape messenger 4.79. I only use IE for windows updates!

Like Eugene I only use I.E. for Windows updates. For my day to day browsing I use Firefox and Opera. Both have Google search integrated into the tool bar, both have tabbed browsing and both can be used as RSS Readers. Opera has RSS native but is often sporadic for updates and Firefox requires the use of an extension but once set up can be easily manually updated. I think Opera lives up to its boast of being the fastest browser around, but Firefox is giving it a run for its money. I have a dial up connection and like the illusion of speed that both Firefox and Opera give. I have been a long term fan of Opera, and a recent one of Firefox (Firebird). I.E. is purportedly the most popular browser which in turn attracts the most hackers, which generates the need for continual patching.

I was fed up with IE after having to completely rebuild my system because of a virus that got through while browsing. So I heard about Firefox from some computer guy on the radio and gave it a try. Man I am so pleased with it that I use it for everything except Windows updates. Firefox is just as quick as Opera and has a cleaner, simpler interface than anyting else I have seen. It also does a better job at loading pages than Opera too. (just try going to msnbc.com using Opera and you'll see what I mean) Anyway, I am telling everyone I know about Firefox....I love it!
