Question

IE too slow on HP Pavilion DV6 2151EZ, Win7

Nov 13, 2012 2:23AM PST

I have a HP Pavilion DV6 2151EZ notebook, OS being Win7 64bit.

These days, whenever I try to launch the IE either 8 or 9, it is damn slow in responding.

I tried to uninstall the IE9 and use IE8, but the problem persists. Tried disabling the Add-Ons, etc. but no success.

Alternatively I tried to use Mozilla, it's performance is a little better than IE.

But I don't prefer using Mozilla always, so need IE on my notebook.

Anyone has better ides to improve this situation?

Pls share the thoughts.
Many thanks.

Answer
Does not look to be a slow PC.
Nov 13, 2012 2:29AM PST

This i7 powered laptop at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4167812 looks fine.

However I find some folk expecting less than a few second response times but that's not in the cards today as Antivirus and more protection software dog the performance.

Given only your post details I can't offer much. Post a HIJACKTHIS log to avoid me having to ask if you have this or that app.

Looked and many questions.

Starting at about the DPF section you trip over vpnweb.cab and then more items that are new to me and SUSPECT.

Did you install some odd apps, attempt to do some VPN to hide from someone? I am left to guess here but there's a lot in that log that is suspicious. But it's your machine so you may know if it's OK or not. For me, it's not OK. I'd be ripping out the vpnweb.cab since we know vpn's do not offer any hiding from the usual governments. I won't debate that but some want to. Especially those that sell them.

But I went over it twice and found no security apps so let's try ONE APP to see if this has that rootkit or not. Grif lists RKILL at http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6132_102-5098912.html?tag=posts;msg5099421 so let's run that and see if one of the nasties pops up.

Later we may run the rest but for now, let's start with the quick test.

OK,
