IE script error message

May 2, 2009 2:07AM PDT

I have a HP PC model a6700f, AMD 9150 Quad core Processor, 4 GB memory and 64 bit operating system. The software is Vista Home Prem Svc Pack 1. I have recently been getting this error message everytime I turn on the computer saying:

An error has occured in the script on this page:
line 9586
char 9
error Object doesnt support this property method
code 0
URL http:/dw.weather.com/v20090501.0/service/dwzeus/dws6/js/js

So I decided to unistall this Weather Channel software to reinstall it...thinking that my get rid of the problem, except when I tried to unistall the Weather Channel from my programs, I got a message that WISE UNISTALL couldnt open the Installlog file.

ALL of these problems started after I got a message from Microsoft to install Internet Explorer 8, which I did 2 days ago. Now I am not able to open some of the websites I have not had any problems opening when I was using IE 7. So I went to Microsoft and used a program called FIX IT to remove IE 8 and replace it with IE 7. But maybe it didnt do what it was supposed to do in "fixing things" back to before.

Help!!
Janet

Try System Restore...

That is the easiest solution to IE8 ongoing compatibility issues, enabling you to revert back a few days to a time prior to the upgrade.

IE Script Error

Hi John,
How do I use System Restore? I have never used it before, but I have made the Recovery Discs. Do I choose an actual date to use System Restore?

System Restore...
May 2, 2009 5:14AM PDT

System Restore is a standard feature of Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7 that enables you to 'roll back' your computer to a previous date. It is not the same as using your restore/recovery system discs, which erase everything and reinstall Windows as if you just unboxed the computer the first time. System Restore will reverse operating system modifications and software installations since the restore point's creation, but not affect your personal files.

That said, you can click here for more information regarding System Restore, including usage instructions. It will list dates for which restore points are available...just choose the most recent one that exists before the problems began.

Hope this helps,
John

System Restore
May 4, 2009 9:26AM PDT

Hi John,
Well I followed your instructions and used the System Restore to the date before I had installed IE 8 and my PC is running fine again! Thanks so much for that help.

Is there anyway to know if an update from Microsoft is going to be something I need to install on my PC or Microsoft always wanting me to install IE 8?

To a degree...

You can access the Windows Update options in the Control Panel and set it to notify you of updates, but not to automatically download/install them. You can then read the description of the updates it notifies you of, and do online research into them as necessary, to determine which ones you do and do not want. It will continue to recommend IE8, but you do not have to install it if you do not want to.

John

Hi John,
Thanks again for your help in letting me know how to handle these requests for downloading something I dont want...like IE 8. I will will make that change for Windows downloads to not be automatic til I have checked it out.
