IE difficulties (redirected to thesafetytool.com/)

Hello all,

I'm having some difficulties, everytime I open Internet Explorer (version 7) I immediately redirected from my home page to thesafetytool.com (NOTE: DO NOT VISIT THIS SITE--may be harmful). I also occassionally get popups all advertising downloading their fake security program so I won't have this problem.

I hit my computer with everything I have to try and get rid of this:
eWido
SpySubtract
AdAware
Spybot
MacAfee virusscan

They found some other problems which were deleted but could not solve my main problem.

I was wondering if anyone had encountered this problem themselves and could tell me how they solved it.

Thanks for the help
-Dave

I forgot to mention that it doesn't seem to be affecting Firefox at all.

WARNING, All! Don't use the safetytool link!

In reply to: IE difficulties (redirected to thesafetytool.com/)

Until we can get Lee to inactivate the autolink to the malicious site mentioned in the root message (going to safetytool.com), don't click on it out of curiosity, or with some systems allow your cursor it linger over it for too long. Otherwise, you'll visit the malicious site and may get the same infection on your own computer!

Verifying adware away -- does it work?

In reply to: try adware away

adware away seems to be fairly easy compared to most solutions I've seen proposed for thesafetytool (haven't tried it yet) -- does it really work or just seem to? I'd like to get this solved the first time. Haven't seen much on adware away...
