IE and firefox won't display some images

Jun 9, 2005 2:01PM PDT

Firefox 1.04 won't display certain images. A good example is when i load up yahoo, but FF won't display the big "YAHOO!" logo at the top mid. Also it won't display the ads on the left and right. A blank space with some small rectangular logo just takes the images place for the yahoo logo and left and right is blank. Also hotmail.com, everywhere is blank and i can only see the loging and passward image on the right.

I tried IE 6( on the samecomp) on yahoo and it won't load the same images.

At this point i tried loading up yahoo webpage on my laptop with FF and it loaded the yahoo webpage perfectly.

I tried cleaning the cache, history, and temp internet files, etc for both browsers, but nothing works.

This problem starting after i was streaming a video on firefox on the cnet.com website. I hit the back buttom while the video was playing and my browser froze. I atempted to close the window and just ended the program. When the window closed i got an xp error window asking if i wanted to send in the report or not. i started the firefox browser again to open to yahoo it wouldn't display the images. It seems that when i hit the back button during the streaming video some file must have become corrupt.

So far i have tried reinstalling firefox, flash, shockwave, window media player and nothing works. I also tried win xp system restore and it didnt work. I really don;t want to format my computer again, because this same problem happened a few weeks ago when i was watching a streaming video.

i should also add that i have tried loading the images directly by copying and pasting their urls. Ie gives that page can't be displayed page and firefox gives me that window prompt ( can't remember what it said.

Pretty weird...

That's pretty weird... o_O

So it isn't just a hotlinking issue, and it's not IE or Firefox itself...

You said that some small images are displayed properly while most others weren't. Can you find out what types of images are displayed? Does the .gif work and .jpg doesn't? Or is it the other way around?

In any case, try to avoid using WMP from now on, even as a browser plugin. Many other people had WMP causing weird problems before...

This is from the yahoo.com page
Seems like .gifs are not being displayed and also somewhat large flash image at the top right. But the ones being displayed are a mix of .gifs and .jpegs.

The weirdest thing is that NOW yahoo.com loads perfectly. I can see all the images and for hotmail.com as well. I didn't do anything. I was typing this post and kept rechecking the yahoo.com homepage to see what was not being displayed. Then after a few checks everything loaded. i check hotmail.com, but it was still blank with only the sign in part showing. Then after checking back a few times, it everything loaded!? VERY STRANGE considering the fact that this happened before ( about 2 weeks ago) and didn't fix by itself.

malware...

If you use WMP, even if only in browser plugins, it may be a combination of malware...

Might as well check the system with Adaware or something similar one more time...
