Question

IE 9 - Enabling Java Script

Nov 23, 2013 2:50AM PST

I have recently had to do a recovery on my Vista laptop with Office Pro 2003. I've had a few problems getting Outlook 2003 to work with my BTYahoo email. (I'm trying to avoid paying BT to sort me out).

Outlook sends test messages OK but doesn't pick up incoming messages from the server. When I try to access my account settings on BT Yahoo mail, I get an error message saying that the page needs Javascript to be enabled. Can anyone tell me how to do that please?

This maybe: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/howtoscript

But, of course, it can be you have additional security software installed that blocks this particular operation. And it might be that different versions of Windows or IE have slightly different settings. I seem to remember a version that had separate options for using scrips in IE and in other applications.

Enabling Javascript in IE9

Thanks for your response. I'm not familiar enough with the use of scripting to understand the scope of the functions attached to the security setting options in IE9 or in applications.

As I didn't need to fiddle with such settings when I originally installed Office 2003 and set up Outlook, (originally, Hotmail, then AOL and now BTInternet Yahoo Mail) I expected the default settings that were in play following my recent recovery to be sufficient to resume normal email operation.

I guess I'll have to continue playing with the settings until it works!

Thanks again for your response.

Javascript in IE9

Java proves to have been a false trail. I hadn't noticed that my email had started downloading a large number of old messages which were not visible on the current inbox page because they were being inserted in date order, this explains why recent messages visible on the server hadn't downloaded.

Sorry to have wasted your time and that of others who may have been trying help.

Office2003 SP3 also known as KB923618 is required or you should see trouble on OSes past XP.

I will decline from debating if this is required. Some folk seem to want to debate that but I won't.
