Question

IE 8.0

Jul 29, 2011 1:37AM PDT

I recently did a clean install and moved from IE 6.0, to IE7.0 to IE 8.0.

My O/S is XP -Pro fully patched.

My problem is I am better able to see my browser and web page content at a magnification of 125% as the defaulty 100% seems to create smaller fonts and headers.

Is there someplace in the O/S that I can change settings and make sure they do not revert to default every time I open a new browser page?

Thank you in advance.

David

IE 8.0

Thank you for your prompt response Mark.

I went to the thread and followed the instruction. When I got to Tools> Internet options>Advanced>Accessibilty, I noted that the 'reset zoom level' was already unchecked.

I rechecked it, unchecked it> apply and nothing.

Sorry to see that failed

and I am unsure why it should.

I just tried this on mine, IE9 and it worked for me. What I did;

Opened IE, went to Internet Options > Advanced, and ticked both;
"Reset text size to medium for new windows and tabs" and
"Reset zoom level for new windows and tabs".

Then I went to View > Zoom and chose 125%, (I don't have the Status bar showing at the bottom on my IE).

I found an image on Google and opened it in a new tab, (right click, open link in new tab). I had to zoom that as well.

Shut down IE and re-opened it and it had reverted back to 100%.

Then I removed the 2 ticks in that Advanced settings, and repeated the zoom level increase in the first page and in a new tab. Closed down IE again, re-opened, and the zoom level remained at 125%.

I think you're going to have to play around with this and keep trying. The clue, I think, is in those Advanced settings. They mention "New Windows", and "New Tab", not existing windows or tabs. So, set your sizes in the existing window and in a new tab, and try again.

Good luck.

IE 8.0

I tried the remedy and even googled to see if any one had a different solution. Turns out the original fix was suggested by a VP at Microsoft.

After playing for a while I rolled it back to IE7.0.

Have the IE 8.0 executable that I d/l [from Microsoft vs. getting it from Windows Updates] saved to a folder in a few days I will uninstall IE7.0 and try going direct from IE 6.0 to IE 8.0. Will see what happens.
Thank you for all your help.
