ie 7 freezing up

i'm running ie7 on two different systems. on the laptop, everything is
working correctly. i click on a link and the link works. in some cases it's
a pop up in other it take me to a new page. on the other pc a desktop.
when i click on a link it MIGHT work. i have been to the same site on both
pc's. the laptop would work the desktop would not. i checked the the
internet option setting advance settings and the only different is the
desktop as JAVA checked and the laptop did not have JAVA listed at all.
i unchecked JAVA on the desktop, in doing this i got SOME links to work but
not all.
