IE 6 update and can I run msn with mozilla?

May 24, 2005 4:11AM PDT

I have been trying to install IE 6, however installation only reaches 93%every time. I've tried following the microsoft troubleshooting section but certain files it says to rename i can't because it says they're in use by the system even when in safe mode- does anyone know how to stop these files running? They are actxprxy.dll , urlmon.dll , wininet.dll , and wintrust.dll (although will this even help?). I've shut everything down except for Explorer using ctrl alt del. Alternatively if there's another reason this could be happening that would helpful!
I've actually got an alternative browser, mozilla, but I'm not sure how i would make messenger run through this.
One solution suggested, which i've already tried was to move all the IE uninstall information into a different folder, and this just locked the computer up to the state in which i had to use system restore.
Any help appreciated
Ilana

Wouldn't you rather run MSN Messenger's shortcut from the desktop or programs list?? no you can't run msn mozilla it is not part of microsoft therefore it can't be installed together now for the internet explorer part usually a lot of people have problems installing it sense it's on windows me what I would consider is re-download internet explorer uninstall it with a program called IEradicator it'll get rid of ie almost completely 1% will stay in it's at http://www.litepc.com/ download it use it for ie and then reinstall ie it should work after that...

Try it this way

Do you see an error message similar to "unable to install all components"?

Try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee
