Spyware?

Start with running the scans from Spybot S&D (download) and www.bitdefender.com (online). If you can download and run them in your current state, that is.

A system restore (depends on your OS) could be useful also.

Shutting down

I had the same problem, or at least it seemed like it. Your computer may be runnung hot and that is the reason for shut down. Try to use some dust remover. It worked for me.

go to the Bitdefender site and download the evaluation version of Bitdefender 9 Internet Security....

http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Download/browseEvaluationVersionFiles/72/1/BitDefender_9_Internet_Security__.html

then download the latest version of Firefox....

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

stop using Internet Explorer and your problems may be solved, it is also important to download the evaluation version of Bitdefender 9 Internet Security (latest version) instead of just doing an online scan....
