IE 6 history missing

Sep 8, 2004 5:54PM PDT

Windows 98 SE - I recently reformatted and reinstalled all software.

In IE6 I now only see the icons for previous days' histories but when I click on the link they do not expand. Also the date format has changed to US but it used to be UK.

In the Control Panel the Regional Settings were set to US english which I have reset to UK english, rebooted and then reinstalled IE6 but this has not fixed either problem.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

There is a registry setting to clear history on exit. I'll leave you to google that on.

Do google IEFIX and see if it helps.

Robert

I don't want to clear the history on exit I want to retain it! Nevertheless, have checked out IEFIX on Google and will try some of the repair tricks although none seems to specifically address the missing history or the date that now appears in US instead of UK format.

Thanks for your input

You may want to use IEFIX since it fixes many minor issues with IE without you or I having to dig in. Some want to work hard. I won't.

Look for TWEAKUI and what's in its PARANOIA tab. You'll find an item of interest there.

Best of luck,

Almost there! Have cleaned up the history but can't find a way of changing the date format from US style i.e. mm/dd/yy to UK style dd/mm/yy

I'm sure it used to be this way - is there a registry key that I can edit?

Thanks

That's in the control panel, regional settings.

Done that - reinstalled IE to 'pick up' the required setting - no luck.

Can't believe this is so difficult - have had one problem after another since reformatting and reinstalling the software, which I have done several times before without all this palaver.

I know what I want to do is really trivial but it's like a tooth with a cavity - you can't keep your tongue away from it!

Where are the Regional settings stored? Perhaps I could edit them to effect the change; what do you think?

That one I don't know. Microsoft has (too?) many registry entries and no database of what each does.

When I find such things like this, I do run IEFIX, reboot and more to see if that cures it.

Remember that just because a control box is set a certain way does NOT mean that the setting is obeyed. This is a Microsoftism many can't learn. They need to be told many times. Example? look at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx and note Microsoft tells you to set it to PIO then back to DMA to enable DMA.

Why doesn't it use the setting in the first place? Hint: It's a bug.

Looks like I'll have to call it a draw then - but it doesn't half bug me!

Thanks for all your time
