I never realized that option existed until I read your post. Appearently it's always been checked and I've never experienced the problem. In fact the computer has never even appeared to be looking for updates. I always manually download updates from Windows Update.
I just unchecked it and restarted the computer to make sure the change took effect and after a ten minutes no problem. I'll post back if I start experiencing the problem. But you may want to check it just to see if it helps. Probably can't hurt.
IE 6 + patch on Gateway running ME.
Internet options advanced, the checkbox for internet explorer updates is unchecked. Problem is that when I am surfing everything stops/stalls/hangs-up and the hourglass pops up and IE is searching for updates. I have attempted ctl-alt-del and turned it off there as well, but still no good. Browsing stalls every 15-30 seconds or so. Any ideas?
