General discussion

IE

Hi,
How can I find out which IE is installed on my computer?
In the add/delete program in Windows Components Internet Explorer takes up 0.0MB & is checked
MSN Explorer takes up 20.7MB & is checked.
Also, Internet Information Services (IIS) takes up 13.5MB & is unchecked.
I am having problems connecting to IE and it is frustrating because an error message comes up, I send it, this happens sometimes 5-7 times in a row. Also in Windows Task Manager I can have up to 6 IEXPLORE,EXE running at one time. Does that mean it is not shutting down completely?
I'm running Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 5150.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you, Gwen

From the top toolbar of your browser page (file edit etc.), alick on Help, then about. That will tel you which IE version you are running.

Possibly...

Internet Explorer does not support tabbed browsing (well, not without an add-on unless you're running IE7 Beta), so every time you open a new window a new instance of iexplore.exe will be created in Task Manager. If any/all remain after you close the last Internet Explorer window then it's not closing properly, but otherwise it's normal.

There are several things you can try, primarily:
* IEFix can correct corrupted IE registry entries.
* BHODemon can enable you to remove any unwanted browser helper objects which may be causing IE to crash.
* You can click here for instructions on repairing IE.
* Make sure that you run scans with your antivirus and antispyware software.

Aside from that, you can remove MSN Explorer if you like...it's not needed. The other two are fine.
