Question

IE 10 or 11 will not open HELP!!!!

Oct 19, 2014 3:38AM PDT

Dell Inspirion 5520
Windows 7
64-bit

When I click on IE 10 it flashes for a second then disappears. I've tried firefox and chrome and they work fine. I tried System Restore but it only goes back a day and this started a few days ago when I had a Virus on Norton which was fixed thanks to this forum.

I have tried removing IE 10 to IE9, same problem. I also tried IE 11 same problem, it flashes up for a second and that's it.
Any ideas for help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Sometimes damage done by a virus is such that the system is crippled after removal of the virus. Then we go back to the latest image (if we have that) or we reinstall Windows.

Answer
IE/Restore

Under system restore, there will be at the bottom of the window, "Choose a different restore point" That is how you should be able to backdate further. With IE10/11 ...go to Control Panel, open programs and Features, on the left top of the page, open Installed Updates, scroll to Internet Explorer 10/11, whichever is shown, highlight and click Uninstall, then wait until it removes the prior variant and it will reload that or the earlier variation. As was mentioned, it could be malware. One very simple check would be to look at what your homepage reads, this will be in Control Panel..Internet Options. IF it shows something other than MSN IE in the window, backspace to blank window, type in MSN.COM click apply..and try again. IF your default page was MSN IE, you could also click the Use Default option as well..either or.
