The question is...

WHY do you want to open something you have no idea what it is?

That is one of the many ways that files get corrupted and computers quit running and require fixing.

If you simply MUST look at a file you can use NotePad if you are very careful to NEVER try to make any changes or save the file as that would cause corruption. Just because it will open in Notepad however does not mean that all or even most of it will be readable.

zipitydoo, If it's actually an .eml file choose Outlook Express to open it.

Sounds like MIME has you ...
by Edward ODaniel / January 22, 2006 4:17 AM PST

in its grip. MIME is the acronym for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions and is how your email is sent and received.

Tufenuf already indicated that you should be able to open it with Outlook Express but that would not be the only way if you don't happen to have OE.

If you open the file in NOTEPAD or another text editor and see something like:

Content-ID: <>
Content-Type: image/gif
Content-Disposition: inline
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

All you need is a MIME decoder and ALLADIN makes one that works real nice called Alladin Expander (also opens compressed files). It is freeware

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
