iDVD and macbook overheat

Sep 25, 2006 9:18PM PDT

hi, i really need ur help on this. i started a new project using iDVD a week ago.
and everytime i use it, my black intel macbook starts to overheat after about 2-3 hours. and everything's getting slower and slower. there's also a loud spinning noise (fan or HD?)
i usually shut it down and let it cool for a couple of hours.
is it normal? is there any exploding battery issue on macbook series?

is it ok to remove the battery and just plug the power adapter? any warranty issue for battery dismantle?
i really love my macbook and use it everyday for about 5-6 hours. sometimes with the power adapter on.

thank you in advance for any information, guys.

Overheat

Check that the clear plastic film has been removed from the grill that is just underneath the screen. Check also that all vents are clear. A blow through with canned air is good.
I did not see your machine in the recall section so, presumably, it is not the logic board problem that is causing this.
There is no penalty for removing the battery and running the machine on just the power adapter. This is quite normal.

In answer to the question "any warranty issue for battery dismantle?" The answer to that one is a resounding YES! DO NOT, under any circumstances, attempt to dismantle the battery. This is a hazard thing, not a warranty thing. Although you will void the warranty.

there's a vent grill?
Sep 25, 2006 11:08PM PDT

wow, this is the very first time i locate the vent grill. seriously, all this time i wonder where the heat goes.

btw, there's no plastic there and i don't remember removing any plastic since i got my mac. probably the guy from mac store had it removed.
i decided to remove the battery, plug the cord, and try the iDVD again. i'll let u know what happen.
thx a lot for the info. i really appreciate it.

check the vents again, the plastic is a very clear layer which went undetected by hundreds of early purchasers.

Hope your fix works
