idiots guide to the sony DCR 408 DVD camcorder

Can anyone that has a Sony DCR-408 DVD or similar give me some quick tips for using the camera? I have ordered one and it will get here the day before I leave on vacation and I was hoping to get a head start on somethings before it gets here.
CAN anyone give me some easy tips? If that is possible?
