I'll share I have a few of a similar converter and it worked fine on the first 5 machines I tried it on. The last machine is some gateway and it won't see the drive on the sata converter. For that machine I had to use a real sata drive.
No. I don't know of a fix for this save changing boards or machines.
We recently bought the Extremely Mini Converter Board SATA-to-Ultra ATA-133 to install an IDE HDD to a SATA port on our motherboard. However, BIOS does not recognize the device! We have turned on the SATA port in BIOS, used the included power plug, and set the jumper on the HDD to "single".
Note: We bought the converter from xpcgear.com and it did not come with a manual. All it says on the site is:
1. Make sure to use the included power cable and connect it to the PSU, and Adapter Card
2. Make sure to connect the PSU's 4-Pin Molex directly to HDD
3. Make sure to set the jumper settings on your Hard Drive to Single Device Master
