ID Protection?

Nov 11, 2009 1:56PM PST

I have searched the other threads but have yet to find one that would help me with what is going on here.

I'm running on windows XP on a Dell DM051 and I was prompted by version 8.5 to upgrade to 9.0 and after a while managed to get it running... However I no longer have Identity Protection, it says that it is disabled. Now, I read somewhere that ID Protection was only available for the paid version.. but I am confused, I paid for AVG 8.5 about two months ago and got this upload for free. Are you telling me that I paid for something that I have until 2011 but don't get the same features in the new upgrade?

I've tried to change the settings however all it tells me is "An error has occurred while saving the configuration. For all other unexpected errors."

Any information would be helpful before I lose my mind.

Jess

ID Protection available
Nov 11, 2009 7:12PM PST

Hi Jess,

we've managed to include ID Protection within the product and the standalone application should be uninstalled. So there won't be any further additional icon, moreover the IDP is that well integrated into AVG IS, that it helps several other parts of AVG with the assessment of files/processes, using its behavioral engine.

So if you open AVG by double-clicking the desktop icon or the square, four-colored icon next to system clock, you should be able to see the IDP in the list of components.

If it's not there, there might be an additional effort required to get it in - we can get our support rep. in touch with you to help you out with this.

As for the error, could you mention exactly when it is shown? Is it possible to determine if it is related to some specific activity on PC?

Thanks!

Hmmm
Nov 12, 2009 12:12PM PST

Well that's the thing. When I open the desktop icon it tells me that everything is active except the IDP icon which tells me that it is disabled. So in the toolbar I go to "Components - Identity Protection" and it says disabled. Under the settings I want it to be "Automatically quarantine detected threats" and try to "Save Changes". It then tells me that it is saving the configuration and then it gives me that error.

Also, I just turned my computer on for the first time today and it updated and deactivated every single component for a while, reactivated them and then I had to restart my computer. Seems like that shouldn't happen?

I cannot get the AVG Identity Protection enbled. I have tried over and over. It is not working on version 1.0.1191 When you try to enable it it just gives you an error in the IDP configuration, and then goes back to disabled.
It works on my other system version 1.0.1188
Both systems have the same Virus DBm but the program versions are different???
Everything else is fine, just cannot get IDP to work on 1.0.1191

Hello Mysupportanywhere,

could you please check the complete reinstallation of AVG at your computer? What is the current situation?

In case the error still persists, please provide us with MSinfo32 output:
- Click on the "Start" button.
- Choose the "Run" option.
- Please type the "msinfo32" (without quotes) command to the command line and confirm by clicking on the "OK" button (or press Enter).
- After the tool is launched, please choose the "File" menu and the "Save..." option.
- Choose a name

Please pack output in an archive (zip file), upload it to favourite online storage and provide us with link to it (you can open my CNET profile and send the link in the message directly to me).

Thank you

Hello Mysupportanywhere,

as you are using paid AVG, please contact AVG technical support through this web
form:

http://www.avg.com/ww-en/customer-support

Or use the option in AVG -> menu Tools -> Get Help Online

You can also use this AVG diagnostic tool to send directly the diagnostics to AVG support (to speed up the process).

Thank you

I went to Control Panels to Add and RemovPrograms and did a repair instead of an un-install.

Hey!
Nov 17, 2009 1:09PM PST

Just to let you know that I got it all working after uninstalling and reinstalling it about 6 times but it works great now.

I am just really hoping that the next time an update comes out, it doesn't make me want to throw my computer out the window.

Cheers,
Jess
