You can try this

On any empty space on your desktop, right click the mouse and choose Properties.

In the "Display Properties" dialogue box that opens, click the "Appearance" tab, then click the "Advanced" button.

Under "Item", use the down arrow to scroll to Icon, then change the size in the size box next to it. Click OK, then Apply, then OK.

Hope this helps.

Appearance>Effects>Use large icons

Before you go about tailoring your own individual icon sizes, as Mark suggests (which is a good tip, but tedious) just see if the single setting of "Use large icons" works well enough for you.

To get there:
right-click anywhere on a blank area of the desktop,
select Properties,
select Appearance tab,
click [Effects] button
check on, "Use large icons"

If you don't like the results then you can alter the size, like Mark suggests.
