IBook G4 DIsplay Problem

Oct 30, 2010 9:10AM PDT

Computer was dropped. Now when turned on, the computer chimes, you hear the HD etc but the screen simply alternates blue, green, red and grey. Any ideas?

Two possibilities
Oct 30, 2010 11:50AM PDT

Two possibilities come to mind.

Either you simply knocked the video connector loose, and it's a relatively simple fix, or you did permanent damage and unless the system has sentimental value, won't be economical to repair.

Check the ifixit website for instructions on taking the iBook G4 apart to get to the video cable. If that doesn't fix it, start looking for a new laptop.

iBook G4 Display Problems
Oct 31, 2010 2:15AM PDT

I appreciate your input - Ifixit is a great site. Frankly, I was not aware of the resale (Ebay) value and see that you can buy them used for a few hundred. At first I thought about a new display ($279) but that seems a poor idea now. I will take it apart and see if an easy fix is available. Thanks again.
