This is where you need to converse with someone that has done this too many times.
I will not teach DOS, but will share how I did it.
1. Booted the boot diskette and did the usual FDISK and FORMAT C:/S
2. Copied the boot diskette files to C:\ so when it boots it has CDROM support.
This is ONE LINE in CONFIG.SYS (Device=cdrom.sys /d:cd1)
and ONTE LINE in AUTOEXEC.BAT (MSCDES /d:cd1) You as an expert DOS head can handle that.
3. Now I make a win98 directory on the hard disk and copy the win98 files from the CD to the C:\Win98 directory. No I will not tell you the DOS copy command. You are the installer, not a person who doesn't do dos.
4. Now I can remove the CD and then type ...
CD WIN98
SETUP
And we're off.
5. After Microsoft is all done, we collect and install all the lovely drivers that Microsoft doesn't do. You as the expert OS installer have done this many times. Have fun.

Hey Everyone,
I am working on a IBM Thinkpad 770 its a pentium and it has a drive C and A. My problem is when i go to install Windows 98 or ME I cant get it to recogonize a D: drive or a CD-rom to install the OS. Their swapable drives floppy & cdrom. So when i use a win98 bootdisk which makes a ramdrive I then swap from floppy to cd-rom but it still see's it as A: and this happens even if i boot it up with the cdrom during regular setup. I hit ESC to BIOS or Start up and i see only A: or C: for booting up. Please help me.
