A microphone level is not the same as the level as a "line in" level so the line in level may fail if a microphone is plugged in without some "PREAMP."
It's a shame that there is no primer document on this. But I bet a search on google could find something.

I own an IBM Thinkcentre Desktop.....
The user manual states that there are 2 jacks on the rear of the computer denoted as Line-In and Line-Out.
The manual also states that there are 2 jacks in the front of the computer denoted as Headset and Micrphone In.
I have a Headset that also contains a Michrophone.
If i attach the headset jack to either the rear-line-out or the front headset-out it works for both. Sounds come out of either one, but the Michrophone Jack only works for the front-Michrophone-In and not for the rear-line-in.
This doesn't make sense to me. I thought that it should work when I plug it into the REAR-LINE-IN as well. The Michrophone is an input line-in device.
Please assist,,,,,,
Thanks
