A little misleading.

Windows 98 had excellent PNP for its day. And Dell from what I've seen "loads up" on many common printer and other drivers to fend off newbie user support calls (they don't know to load the drivers or even how).

XP is not any better at PNP driver finding.

Don't do it.

DVD player?
Jan 28, 2005 8:46AM PST

Excuse me if stuff gets repeated. You do need some DVD media s/w in order to play DVDs. If you don't have one or can't d'l OEM type from IBM support website, provided that the DVD player was orginal to the laptop. I suggest you try using VLC media player(free). It will provide the player and codecs you need. Also, the player while not as pretty as others, it does do the job once familiar with it. Further, its from your side of the pond. http://www.videolan.org get your OS version and d/l it. I hope this helps.

thanks for the info guys......just one last question if you dont mind. I need some good external speakers for my laptop for when im playing back my dvd's or audio cd's......but the laptop does not appear to have any outgoing speaker ports. can anyone recomend good quality powerful speakers for a laptop ? perhaps those which connect to the usb port would be best?
