Does anyone know for sure if documents and other file types(e.g rar, zip)can be uploaded to this player so I can transfer them to another computer?

Off course you can. if the os rejects a file type just rename, upload in X5 rename back after dawnload.
I have an X5 I haven't tried it because I send for repair but I have tried it with iRiver H320.
