Question

i7 4790k vs i7 6700k

Aug 8, 2017 4:10AM PDT

Currently I have an i5 4460 and want to upgrade my cpu.

The i7 4790k would be a cheaper option as I won't need to upgrade mobo and ram.

Is the i7 4790k still good and be able to run 4k games with my 970?

Or should I spend more and get a new mobo ram and a 6700k.

Many thanks.

1070?

not great so upgrading the cpu would almost be pointless for 4k gaming.

Maybe I should spend the money on a 1070 instead?

This is why I supplied that article.

Gamers I know want 60FPS or higher. Read that link and look at what it took to barely hit 60.

You might hit the rates with lower settings but gamers I know have rolled back to 1080p over the costs. You can also run the video card at 1080p and let the display upscale it.

I am guessing here you don't have the 4K monitor or you would already be screaming.

Run your games and watch the cpu usage with the i5.

I suspect it is not working that hard.

If true then putting in a cpu with more muscle won't buy you much.

If you do decide to upgrade go with the 4790k.
