I'd hate to see that happen as a hard and fast rule. When you think about it, both politics and religion are built from ideas and ideals which, individually, should be easy enough to discuss. When these get lumped into a "system" that takes on a label that, in turn gets associated with a person or party, that's where trouble begins. If we could take out the labels and associations and deal with the specific ideas and ideals, it should work ok. Your mention of "some posters" is key. The topics aren't the guilty parties. I'd think that restrictions rather than total bans might be workable....or at least worth trying.
applaud the decision to stop the political discussions. Thank you. Hopefully it will be permanent. It's obvious that banning them, then laxing off, then warning, then stopping, then ignoring has no effect. I hope the ban includes religion.
I belong to many computer forums both general and product specific, and each has a forum like Speakeasy. But discussions that cause problems are not tolerated in any shape, form, or manor. Political and religious posts are killed on sight. And you know what, they are pleasant to visit.
I've been around since '99 and have seen the forums in their best and their worst. But it's obvious that some posters cannot refrain from making trouble. And that trouble always stems from politics and religion. This is a fact, and all mods know it. And most of the rest of us.
Please consider making the ban permanent.
