Thanks for quick response. I did contact ASUS and it seems they want me to send it back as it could be faulty or a virus. If it's a virus I have to pay them which could be very expensive. I looked at your link to download a windows 8 recovery but it didn't seem to take me to a download link.

Asus support

Most makers/vendors provide the means to order the recovery media either as disc or flash drive form. Depending on how that's supported it maybe both or one or the other. If you get the recovery media in disc form, then access to an ext. USB CD/DVD drive is required. Of course the flash drive is more direct. Having access to the ext. USB drive usually allows an easier way to create the "recovery media" prior to problems.

Visiting the Asus support website should offer a link to order the recovery media. Depending on your warranty period and/or if covered you could get it for free(maybe???). However, in most cases for a small fee usually at $20+ S/H, that's little compared to other methods. Another possible source are 3rd party vendors which offer for roughly $35+S/H, these vendors are legal to sell such recovery media. You will need to review your Asus decal/sticker on the netbook to get the right recovery media usually the S/N# or product code/service tag.
