I went under the knife yesterday

by SantiagoCrespo / September 8, 2006 9:26 AM PDT

The day before yesterday I started feeling pretty bad, sick to my stomach, so I took a cab to the hospital to get checked out, they made me stay and yesterday I had my gall bladder removed, since I had stones. I got released today, I'm home and the pain meds are starting to wear out, so I'm coming back to my senses. I'm pissed to have missed the skype test, but I guess I'll be able to do it next time around.
In the next couple of days, since I have to stay in bed, I'll catch up with the forum and whatever y'all have been up to.

It was a good idea that you went to the hospital. Smart move!

It probably saved my life

It was about to rupture, didn't have a lot of time left.

a little formula
by SantiagoCrespo / September 9, 2006 2:54 AM PDT

40% ibuprofen, 40% buscapina compositum, 20% bad-a$$ Silly

It was pretty bad, but still manageable, after I got into the hospital they shot me full of pain meds, made me feel a little bit drunk, but pain-free.

With me, the pain was so bad that.....

I was pukin' every 15 minutes.

What was so strange was that I have had three (now) operations on my torso and the second one, which is the gall bladder, is the one for which I retain a visable scar.

I think the difference was the drainage tube left in. The other two operations (including a radical cut from the sturnum to the belly button) are visible if you know where to look and what to look for, but it is the gall bladder operation that makes me still wear a T-shirt before I go outside.

Ask the doctor about the brand new topical meds that can be applied to reduce scaring.

The doc said there would be very little scarring
by SantiagoCrespo / September 9, 2006 7:03 AM PDT

since they performed video laparoscopy surgery (four tiny incisions, i'm probably misspeling something) and my recovery time will be very short, since it's just a stitch or two in each incision.

That is exactly what I had too

Do you have the tube left in, with the bulb attached to 'suck out the juice' left inside?

If so, I'd still ask about the topical treatment to reduce scars. Being topical it isn't "systemic" (if that is how it is spelled) and poses no risk.

What is it going to hurt to ask?

Then I'll call the doc on monday
