General discussion

I was sent an email and not being an expert at these things,

Sep 2, 2005 1:57PM PDT

I am not sure whether to copy it here.
But to me it looks like an illegal scam...
Unsure what to do with it - or who to turn to.
It was sent to my Yahoo address by an unknown to me who claims he is a marketing executive from overseas.
Any ideas what I ought to do?
I know I have given limited info....will supply more if needed,
Thank you
Mandy

You could...

foreward it to spam@uce.gov. You might also add it to your Blocked senders list.

Don't respond the it or you'll just be letting the sender know he reached a live email address and you may end up on other email lists.

I couldn't agree more

Delete it, and set up a spam blocker rule to Junk any similar ones in the future.

There's an old adage, "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is too good to be true".

The internet is full of email spammers with schemes like this. The sender of the one you got has most likely sent out millions of similar emails, (it is easy to send 6 million emails a day if you have the knowledge), and all he wants is 0.001% or less to respond, and he makes lots of money.

Be careful of such emails.

Sad thing is...

with all the forged Headers and bogus return addresses it's almost impossible to keep up with the buggers. Myself, unless it's something I prefer to report to authorities/ISP/Host, etc. I find it easier to select them all and hit delete.

Thanks for your responses Mark and Caktus....

I knew not to send it on to anyone, although I did pass it on to the spam address you gave me Caktus, thank you.
It does show that none of us are as anonymous on the internet as we would like to think we are.
Yahoo normally put spam in a bulk folder-even though after reading it I knew it was not worth thinking about.
It is all the other folk out there that worries me who would maybe get sucked in.
I guess that is something you have to not think too much about....
Thanks to you both,
happy computering Happy
