I want to unsubscribe from CNet & Downloads.com HELP?!

Jul 16, 2007 5:00AM PDT

I was sent an invitation email to join ICQ this am & since I do need to be able to converse with this person about a project we are working on, so had no reason to suspect a problem. I foolishly downloaded (or whatever it is) what it said to download, joining both CNet & Downloads.com. I have no use (literally. lol. Maybe figuratively, too, after this experience) for any of the services listed on either site.
The ICQ membership didn't happen & when I tried to straighten that out by going to the downloads for Mac, THAT didn't happen either.
Nor, apparently, is it going to.

I'd like to just blow the whole thing off, but I want to get whatever was downloaded on to my machine off of it. I got the usual auto-response from help (cynical about that, I confess), so THAT'S not happening.

Can anyone tell me how to get this done- now, today?

I'm sorry. This just isn't for me.

Thanks In Advance.

Disembarking...

* There is no download to sign up with or access either Cnet or download.com, so I don't know what the person had you download or how to uninstall it.

* You can unsubscribe from the Cnet newsletters by clicking here and unchecking all of the boxes, then clicking Submit. Please note you may still receive a newsletter or two before the changes take effect.

* For the account itself, there is no 'unsubscribe' option. However, with all of the newsletters canceled you can turn off the 'E-mail member' option in your profile, log out, and not log in again. That's the standard procedure for those who no longer need/want to be members.

Hope this helps,
John

ICQ problem
Jul 17, 2007 9:36AM PDT

I note that you appear to be using a Mac.

Was you ICQ problem related to the Mac version of ICQ or some other problem.

To help you with the uninstall of ICQ from your Mac, it would help if you could tell us what version of the Mac OS you are using and what Mac you have.

Please post your answer in the Mac Applications and Utilities forum, Mac Applications & Utilities

You didn't mention your OS, but...

Have you tried going into Add/Remove Programs through the Control Panel, assuming you're running Windows, and uninstalling it from there? If it's not listed you can also browse to the Webshot's folder in C:\Program Files and launch the uninstaller, appropriately-named unins000.exe. If neither options work let us know what error message is displayed or what problem you are otherwise encountering.

Let us know.
