some info

I guess you are saying that you have only one ATA/IDE slot in your motherboard (one slot with one HD cable with a master drive and slave drive)?

What is your computer model?
Do you have any empty PCI slots to add a HD controller?
Have you considered upgradig to XP?

Windows98SE with drives greater than 127GB have a problem. There are solutions.

we need more information in order to be of much help. Please pay attention to the note at top of the posting page:

?Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem.?

In addition to linkit?s questions, some other pertinent ones regarding ?other specifics related to the problem? are:

As you now have two 40 GB drives, are they set up as independent drives, or in Raid 0 or Raid 1 configurations?

You say you know you can have only two hard drives in your configuration. Why? Most mobos allow four IDE/ATA drives ? do you have other IDE/ATA devices in your system (CD/DVD drives, Zip drives, LS120 drives, etc.)?

Does your system support cable select for drives, or are they set up as master/slave pairs?

You said you want to get a 160 GB or larger drive. Did you plan to replace one or both of the 40GB drives with this drive? Again, as linkit said, your OS does not support directly such large drives ? but there are work-arounds.

There are several possible scenarios for your drive installation and data transfer, but we really can not go into specifics without more information about your system and your exact desires.

Hope this helps
