Resolved Question

I want to buy a hinge laptop - I'm retired

I want to buy a hinge laptop - I'm retired and no longer computer savvy. I use a special keyboard. I would prefer not to pay more than $800.00. Although, I would like the most updated software and capability of a new laptop.
Can you help? I would appreciate your caring advise. With sincere appreciation. Sharyn

Some Options

In reply to: I want to buy a hinge laptop - I'm retired

HP and Dell have some good options.

You may find that Lenovo and ASUS are built a bit sturdier.

If you'll be using the laptop screen (rather than a bigger external monitor) then a 17-inch laptop would be preferred over a 15.6-inch.

The latest generation Intel Core i7 (or Core i5 if price is a factor) are very fast and power-efficient. The Core i7-8550 and 8750 are outstanding processors. 8GB of RAM memory is important; 16GB is better for heavy work but not necessary for most users.

Dell Inspiron 5570 for $400 is my recommendation

In reply to: I want to buy a hinge laptop - I'm retired

Office Dpeot is having an excellent 15.6" Dell Inspiron 5570 laptop computer for $400 + tax. For most retirees this laptop will serve all your needs. For gamers and power users it won't cut it.

HP and Dell have satisfactory units, check out the shopping channels right now as they are having killer sales on 17'' well outfitted laptops for very reasonable prices. Don't buy refurb no matter what you decide. HSN is my favorite for computers…. check them out.

Good advice so far, Sharyn

And the right time to be looking with the end of year sales and such like.

One thought, since you use a special keyboard, I assume this machine will live primarily on your desk, so weight won't be an issue. If it's carried about a lot, even a 15 inch can be very wearing.

I'd think you'll get a better Dell or HP for your budget, than say Lenovo. I'd probably go Dell, if you did need a service call, they seem more user friendly.
