Question

I tunes won't display or play the music on my ipod

Sep 26, 2014 12:25PM PDT

I got a new computer and installed itunes. I plugged in my ipod and it shows up in devices, but when I click on it, it only takes me to a summary page. When I click on the music tab it asks me to sync music which will wipe everything currently on my ipod and replace it with a few sample songs and the new U2 album. How can I get Itunes to see and play the songs that are on my ipod? My itunes version is 11.4.0.18.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My iPod has never played in iTunes. iTunes does however play what's on my PC and I can sync what's there to the iPod.

Can you tell what made you think you could play what's on the iPod in iTunes?

Answer
iTunes does not, and never has, do this.

When your iPod is connected to your computer, iTunes will display what is on the iPod but it cannot play those tracks.

Presumably you loaded up the iPod using your "old" computer.

When you purchased your new computer, transferring all your tracks from the old to the new should have been one of the things you had on your "to do" list.

In the event that you do not have the old computer, or the HD died on it, our only alternative is to use something like iRip to transfer the tracks from the iPod to iTunes on the new computer.

Syncing before that is done will remove ALL the tracks on the iPod and replace them with whatever you happen to have in your iTunes library.

Hi,

Try this below steps;

Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost:

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Unsync/delete all music and resync:

To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music

Reset all settings:

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren't affected.

Restore from backup.

See: iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes (http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977)
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
