General discussion

I thought of this, and I don't even care about these clowns!

All the Demo candidates should settle on one of them. If they all voted for him/her/it they could win the election by themselves

You're welcome, liberals.

ability to influence your life, at least externally, matters to you as it does to us all. I know this is your "riff" on your religion's concept of how we as spiritual beings should regard earthly or corporeal government, but just figured I'd be a bit somber about it, not to knock you or your faith.

It reminds me of the stand-up comic's joke about being on an airplane that was experiencing mechanical difficulties. I cannot quite recall the comic, though it might have been Robin Williams. I think he was referencing the original "Airport" movie - it went something like this : "The really bad part of the flight for me was just after the announcement about us having to make an emergency landing. I looked around the plane and noticed a group of young nuns who started singing praise to the Lord, their faces gleaming with adoration and acceptance of their possible imminent demise. They may have been ready for the next world, but I wanted to stick around in *this one*
for as long as possible!" :^)

First, it was a paraphrase of an earlier comment of Bob's. He lets me tease him. I understand his attitude- as his world gets smaller, inexorably. A good example is the tariff brouhaha, getting worse by the day. What with unintended consequences and such, smaller by the minute. (How many "statesmen" calculated beforehand the effects on the world economy of two periods of heavy rain on an Ag belt that used to be capable of feeding the world, given good distribution?) One farm woman said she and others feel guilty because 'we've failed; we didn't grow corn.'

You're right. I belong to a government that is unconcerned with the actions of any of yours.
But our reasoning is different.

Here's the Bible's view of government.
Adam and Eve governed themselves. Jrhovah was their judge, lawgiver and King. Isa 33:22. He made all the laws (both) and set them in place by fiat. Gen 1:28; 2:17.
He set the penalty (one). Rom 6:23.
Then he watched for some indeterminate period of time. Gen 2:18-25.
That was the Paradise of legend.

They fell short of the standard of behavior (sin = missing the mark) and forefeited everlasting life on earth. They had no option to go to heaven, that's religious myth. Their home was here.
Heaven is the seat of God's government.
Jehovah immediately set up a part of it that would govern the earth in due time. One man picked for that rulership was paul, who wrote Eph 1:9. It's about as useful a summary of the coming situation as any that you might understand at this point. A brief description of life here, under that govermnent, is at Ps 37:29. Not a bad prospect, is it? Certainly better than what man has set up for himself, in 6000 years of effort.

That's where I hope to be, in a physical Paradise under the rule of 144,000 spirit creatures, all tested as to fitness to rule. Just as I'm being tested for fitness to be ruled.

For some things I was unaware of. I'm not much religious, really, though I do consider myself a Christian. I'm most struck by wonder and sprituality - glory, even, when looking at the heavens. Stars and galaxies, simply the best sights "on earth" with nature in her glory a v. close second.

I'm more of a Universalist in thinking, all faiths' tenants - well, most of them! - having many good 'directions' as it were... I love ancient religions too - those Norse gods have some amazing stories and myths associated with them. And some of the Celtic tribes had some pretty bad-*** sagas, too...
