General discussion

I think that there's something wrong with staying logged in

Oct 16, 2005 3:59PM PDT

For some reason after i exit internet explorer. Cnet logs out. I have the option remember me checked and i don't log out prior to exiting. Is there something wrong or is it just me. Other sites i go to remain logged in.

I think it's some software upgrade. To be honest, I find it kind of annoying :-\

if the "remember me" is cookie based

maybe you're deleting the cookie on exit?

Just looked at it. It's the cookie expiration.
Oct 17, 2005 3:15AM PDT

Looking at the cookies on a new machine, the login cookie is marked to expire at the end of the session.

That is different than before PLUS the old cookie on the old machine let's me stay logged in.

Fix? Find a cookie editor...

It's Cnet...

About a week ago Cnet updated the login site/process and there have been problems since. Mark made the first comment here, and Toni started a thread here originally thinking a Microsoft update was to blame. However, it was quickly discovered that Lee's going to have to add yet one more thing to his to-do list now that he's back from vacation. Sad

fixed tomorrow 10/18/05.

This isn't something I planned to come back to from vacation, but I just caught up with a few people at work and this fix will be deployed sometime tomorrow evening.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

For what it's worth to the 'Engineers'...
Oct 18, 2005 3:10AM PDT

Yesterday afternoon I had to login using IE6, but did not have to login using Firefox. Checking the CNet Cookies on my Win XP Home computer, I had "cnet.com and com.com". Later on checking for Cookies I had "reviews.cnet.com", and these that apparently came from CNet, not absolutely sure tho:

ads.pointroll.com
advertising.com
servedby.advertising.com

Even with those cookies I still had to login using IE6, but not login using Firefox. Later on last night I noticed that I now had to login even using Firefox.

Came on line just awhile ago, and must login at CNet using either IE6 or Firefox. What is really strange is there is NO cookies at all from CNet this morning......none...even after I login. I cleared all my cookies before shut down last night and received the normal cookies from my ISP this morning, but none from CNet.
Guess they are still working on the problem.

"Remember me" is fixed somewhat now, but if you don't have
Oct 18, 2005 7:19AM PDT

the "remember me" checked when logging in, it still remembers you regardless if you chose to be remembered or not. I have reported this bug and I'm hoping they will resolve this issue soon.

Thanks for your patience everyone.
